Bedrooms,
Before and After Photos
Over the last couple of months, we have been working on a remodel of our daughters room. We continued with our cottage theme, since we live in a 1929 northwest cottage! :)
Her room had lumpy plaster, ugly electrical, no moulding and gross grey carpet when we moved in. Without further ado, here is what we did!
BEFORE:
The fir floor under the carpet was in great shape, but too orange for my taste. Plus, I have been painting all of the floors upstairs cottage white, so that was what I did for this room as well.
And now for the AFTER.....
Big Daddy planked the lumpy plaster walls with plywood planks, and added pretty base and crown moulding. Let me just say, this room has 12 walls and who knows how many corners...Way to go hubs!
I refinished ALL (ugh!) of the "pottery barn cream" furniture with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint....
The floors got a couple coats of oil based floor paint.
The colors in this room turned out amazing. It is always so bright and cheerful, even on our grey Pacific Northwest days. The wall color is Benji Moore Glass Slipper.
The new lights got a little Annie Sloan treatment as well to match the rest of the pink in the room.
I decided to sew the ruffle curtains, that turned out a little more time consuming than I planned!
And, I modified the ruffled bed skirt so the trundle could pull out by cutting it (argh!) finishing the raw edge, and velcro-ing it to the side of the trundle (also painted pink!).
We hung ikea photo shelves for the book wall...
Adorable bunting I found as a Pintrest project....
I LOVE these adorable knobs found on Etsy! Each one is different and matched the bedding perfectly.
Antique teacup for hair bands, and who doesn't need a little Scentsy cupcake in her room!
And a little reminder of how much our Cupcake is loved.
Mini Cottage (of course Cupcakes FAVORITE spot in the new room)
This was unfinished attic space off of her room. Hubs planked the walls, added some simple moulding and some electrical, and carpeted the floor. I thought this would be easy, until I saw my 6'5" husband crouched inside nailing planks.... he wins the big award on this room for sure!!!
This was a fun (but tiring) project! If you have any questions feel free to ask in the comments and I will get right back to you! xoxo

Absolutely adorable room....what little girl wouldn't just LOVE this space! Heck...an older girl might love it too! :o)
Amazing! And I'm jealous! We are in the middle of adding on a bedroom to our house, which will be for my 5 year old daughter. I'm very excited to decorate it, but it will be so boring compared to this sweet room (Only 4 walls, not 12...I love those fun nooks in older homes)!
Can you please recommend some of your favorite Etsy shops?
Thanks for all the sweet comments everyone. :) I am looking forward to starting the playroom soon!....
@Camille--I will put a list together and make a post next week with some of the shops I have used!
The mini cottage is amazing and inspiring! What a lucky little girl <3
Are the walls really plywood planks and could you give more detail on the prep of the floors , type of paint, and any other topcoat you may have used.
Thank you,
Shirley

I love the walls and the way you incorporated blue and pink. It is simply gorgeous. It makes me want to redo my guest bedroom. www.jennymeierevents.blogspot.com
Can you tell me about the Chalk Paint and how it is differnt than other paint?
Can you tell me where you got the duvet cover? Are they Carole Little? I have the sheets, but haven't been able to find that exact pattern anywhere. Thank you!

Could you share the ceiling light source? That is exactly what I'm looking for!
Very cute...love all the soft colors and that painted furniture!
Fabulous result, we love your style at AYP :)
This so cute! I'm a kind of guy who’s not into cute and adorable, but man! This room looks like it's something from Martha Stewart's magazine. I'm sure my wife and kid would adore this room! Who wouldn't, right?
Crazy crazy cute! It sure was a lot of work, but your vision for that room was perfect! I'm sure your little girl loves her new room! - Susan
Thought I would try again to find out where you got those great ceiling lights....please???
This room is gorgeous. Do yo have a tutorial on how to plank the walls? I'd love to copy yours for our new house. Thank You!
It is beautiful! You and your husband did an AMAZING job!!
Where did you get the flushmount lights in your daughter's room? They are beautiful! Great job.
Love it! Found you through Better After.
Gorgeous! I want my room like this and I'm a grown woman :)
I love that the walls and dresser are of similar colour.
Sounds like you put a lot of time and effort into but it was well worth it. Such an amazing space!!
Thanks for the comments! The flush mound chandelier lights are from Lowes, and painted/antiqued with chalk paint. There is a link to the complete source list at the end of this post. :) Chelsea
So pretty!! New follower! I love finding other bloggers in the northwest! I'm originally from Enumclaw, but now blogging in N Idaho! Your hair bow storage is almost identical to what I used for my daughter! Love the WHOLE room! Would love if you would stop by and share at our link party Give Me The Goods{1 party 5 blogs} https:/dimplesandpigtales.blogspot.com
Wow! So amazing!
I see love...Daddy love for his little girl and that is the best...Mom you rocked this and will grow so easy ...love love the planks..
You definitely need to do a post about planking the walls! I would love to read that! I've wanted to do something similar to our bathroom, so I am currently devouring any and all info on the matter.
Gorgeous work you've done on your daughter's room! I bet she loves it!
Wonderful job to both of you. I know it takes teamwork and patience!
I would love to hear about the planking process since we have an awful uneven room that I've been racking my brain on what to do, and I think we will give this a go! Thanks in advance. :o)
What an amazing do over. Your daughter will never leave home. Those little lacy metal things that she has her headbands in and that you've put plants in. I have a bigger one I use for a trash can in my bathroom and so love it. Where did you get the tiny ones?
Amazing room! Love it.
Gorgeous makeover, full of charm and pretty!! beautiful job!
Londen
P.S. we are a family of three too:) our daughter is 7.
OMG! This is the best little girl's room EVER!! I love every little part of it. I came here from Better After. LOVE IT!
I love this room! The before and after pictures are incredible, what a difference. My daughter just told me that she is getting to old for her bedroom so we are going to remodel her bedroom and I am looking for ideas. The only requirement that she has is that she needs a student desk to do her homework. I can't argue with that. I love the idea of using the photo shelves for your books. I definitely want to do something like that, thanks for the great ideas!
